Re: What happens
If you hear absolutely nothing by the time 8 weeks has passed you can continue to make a complaint to the FOS.
If you received an acknowledgement to say they will be looking into the complaint, they should give you an approx time of when you should hear, so if they fail to write to you within that time, then contact them and ask them for the latest date you should hear, if they still do not respond by that date - complain to the FOS.
So basically as any business are entitled to 8 weeks, if no decision is received you have rights to continue to complain to the above organisation.

Re: What happens
They have the right to ask for extra time, but as long as the 8 weeks have passed you are still in your right to complain to the FOS.
I have had a few where they requested for more time, and maybe they been a week or 2 over, so i would sort of give my own timescale, if i do not hear within say for example 14 days after 8 weeks passed - complain to the FOS.
But as we all know it can take possibly up to about 18 months sometimes with the FOS.
