Has anyone got any good advice please? At the end of June I was contacted by Belmont Thornton and sent claim forms to re-claim my mis-sold PPI insurance. I filled in the forms and sent them off. A week later I received letter of authority from them. By this time I had been advised to pursue the claims myself. I returned the letters of authority unsigned with a letter saying I would pursue the claims myself. I heard nothing from Belmont Thornton. Meanwhile the Halifax contacted me about my mis sold PPI so I negotiated my re=claim. 3 weeks after receiving my cheque from the Halifax I get a letter from Belmont Thornton demandig their payment. Payment for what? Beware they sent off one standard letter to the Halifax without my knowledge. No negotiation no correspondence beyond one standard letter, and now they are demanding payment and deny knowledge of my letter cancelling our contract. What can I do? Will I have to pay for no service?

Re: Belmont Thornton
Hi Venus
They do not have a signed form of authority from you according to what you are saying regardless of what they say. If the forms were sent back unsigned then they do not have a contract with you.
Ask them to send you a signed copy of the agreement which you have not signed. They cannot ask for money when they dont have the signed form to act on your behalf.
If you have any further problems let us know and we will report the matter to the MOJ when we next send them an update on CMC's.
I am assuming that you did you pay any upfront fees?

Re: Belmont Thornton
forget asking them for signed authorities as theres a chance you signed terms and conditions within the first set of docs.
You state you sent a letter back cancelling a week after they contacted you, under the Financial Services (distance marketing) regulations you have 14 days to cancel without charge, this is something which the MOJ take very seriously, you clearly state you cancelled within this period so inform Belmont Thornton of this, their claims they dont know about the letter doesnt negate the fact you sent it, did you keep a copy?? If so send them a copy.

Re: Belmont Thornton
I just had a claim with them re Vanquis Bank.
They didnt get back to me for ages then they sent an offer on behalf of Vanquis bank.
The offer was that Vanquis bank will pay me 36 ounds refund (lol) in return they will charge me only 12 pound fee next if im ever later etc and also they increase my Vanquis card interest to 59% percent.
OR
Option B that they will cancel my vanquis card and all 250 pounds will be immediatelly payable.
I was disguested, i rejected to sign any of these but they want their money
10.80 because they were "successful".
I found it unfair that this claim was not successfull for me, and not signing something which will put me into a more difficult position.
Can i do anything in this case?
Thanks

Re: Belmont Thornton
Hi Bernie
IMHO I think that is also wholly unfair, but that is what these banks are like. Did you not realise that you did not have that many credit card charges, thus now putting you in a difficult situation?
It does not happen to be the fault of Belmont Thornton in your case the fault lies with Vanqris and I bet there is something in their T&C's to the effect that they can either cancel or charge a higher rate of interest if they so wish. If you have the T&C's pop them up here so that we can see what they actually state.
I take it that you neither want to cancel your card or pay the higher rate. So if you did not accept this situation does that mean that you will owe Belmont Thornton a load of money.... either way it seems that you are up a gum tree.
In your circumstance I think I would write to the CEO of Vanquis, I will try and find you the emaili address and ask that they reconsider as what they are doing it seems to me is blackmail. They already charge a high enough interest rate on the card.
Do Vanquis charge for PPI as well?
