  • PPI Claim Nat West

I’ve just started my PPI claim against Nat west.

I first took out a loan with them in 2001 and have since extended the loan in 2005 to consolidate debts and in 2009 for home improvements, all the while the loans have been covered by PPI.

I’m particularly determined to get something from them as when I extended in 2009 I definitely asked to go without PPI as the loan was stretching my overall finances, but they said the underwriters were unlikely to approve the loan without PPI.

I’ve just posted off my cover letter along with the FSO questionnaire, and I’m hoping for a good results. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

      Re: PPI Claim Nat West

RBS on behalf of Nat West bounced my opening letter and questionnaire back to me (right on the 2 week deadline), apparently I put my bank account number on the form and not my loan account. Trivial detail I know, but we all know if they looked at my bank account details, the loan account and number would be there.

We cannot pursue this matter further until you correct this detail and resubmit your forms.....”.

Anyway one step forward, one step back, I’m gunning for them and I’m even more determined to push this through.

        Re: PPI Claim Nat West

RBS on behalf of Nat west have bounced my opening letter and questionnaire for the second time, for the same reasons as above. (looks like they don’t want to play ball).

To avoid this happening again I would like to provide them with the fullest amount of details possible, so I would like to make a SAR request to Nat West.

Before I do this I have 2 questions

        1. Do we have a SAR template on this forum I could use.
        2. Does the SAR request get sent to my local branch of Nat West or to the customer service centre.

Thanks in advance for any help

There is a quicker way. Is the loan still in operation today?
          Do you use telephone/internet banking?

SAR should go through Manchester office, btw if it is to do with the Loan account numbers. You only need one of those numbers as they should look back over all of the loans.

If you do a SAR make sure you ask for the archived notes as well(especially with NatWest)

The loan in question is currently runnimg and the loan account number was taken from my internet banking account. I've just done a screen print of the loan account and re submitted with all of the details

You may be able to avoid the time it takes for a SAR to come back, if the loan was paid from your current account you have 2 options,

firstly go to your local branch, ask at the customer service desk (the one you cant pay cash in to) for a list of all account numbers youve had with them, if they refuse saying you need to request in writing then demand to see the manager, they will print out for you to avoid the fuss.

secondly you can check your bank statements, if paid by direct debit theres a good chance (although not always) that there will be a direct debit reference next to the payments, this is almost always the same as the loan account number.

I checked the second part, Paul, cos they do on certain accounts and do not on other accounts. On online banking, and I have to say I no longer have a loan with NatWest anymore but the accounts start, with a sort code similar to 504045(that was the sort code of my old loan].
Going into a branch tomorrow will provide the information on the current loan. Under the FSA principles they have to look at all previous loans with a view to whether it was missold.

                  Re: PPI Claim Nat West

I've logged onto online banking and got a screen print which contains the following

                  Account Name : Lanzo
                  Account Type : Personal loan
                  Account Number: 86********
                  Sort Code: **-**-**
                  Bank Address: Nat West

If they come back and say "we do not recognise this number as a loan account..." then I will know that they are taking the P. (sorry, intentionally being unhelpful ).

                    Pop into the branch and confirm that the number is the loan account number. If they ask why, tell them that you have to submit paperwork that requires all bank account and loan accounts that you have ;

Or the bank on 0800 88 11 77 and ask em to be 100% certain.

                      Re: PPI Claim Nat West

I’m not sure what the sequence of events should be, but having now acknowledged my loan account, Nat West have written to me to inform me that as I have recently cancelled my PPi insurance they are adjusting my future loan payments down by the value of the ppi. So in future I’ll be £40 per month better off.

However, I’ve not yet cancelled the PPI, I’ve just made a complaint that it was missold. Also there is no word from them yet whether or not my complaint has been upheld. I’ve just checked my bank account and there hasn’t been any mystery payments in the region of £3k so I guess I’m still going through the process.

I got all excited today, another letter from RBS PPI team.

However it was just a letter to say that my claim was already being investigated and I now have a claims reference number. Looking at the date stamp my investigation periods starts October 10th so another 6 weeks to go for an answer.

Hopefully you will receive good news before the 6 weeks timescale, all crossed here and we look forward to hearing the outcome of this.

                            Hello All,

Today I received a bulky PPI claim pack from RBS.

On opening it and reading the first page, I saw that they are prepared to make me an offer paying back PPI to the sum £4200. I was a little bit underwhelmed as that was a little less than I was expecting. Anyway I flicked through the paperwork and I saw the reason for the bulkiness of the pack, there was an offer in there for 2 further loans £4500 and £750, £9500 in total !!! Wow, I’m still shaking.

I’ve got the full breakdown of their figures but I’m not going to argue with them, the acceptance form will be in the post tonight. Christmas this year will be good then I’ll have to pay off the credit card and 2 overdrafts, but the main thing is I’m back in control of my finances.
