Will the FOS look at PPI claims that are more than 6 years old? ie final PPI premium was made more than 6 years ago.

Re: PPI and the FOS
the account's still live alright but the last PPI premium paid was in 2003.
i ask because the FOS refused to look into historic charges on my credit card, citing some 6 year cut-off rule they follow as the reason. do wonder if same applies to PPI claims?sigpicNo one expects a Chronic Hysteresis

Re: PPI and the FOS
I hope so. The creditor in question has refused to supply me with statements pre-2003 so I'm very much in the dark about how much PPI was mis-sold. The statements I DO have state that PPI was sold (monthly premium). The bank have written saying no PPI was sold at all. So either they are wrong or their historic statements are. It was one of those cards taken out with one bank but subsequently bought and repackaged by another.sigpicNo one expects a Chronic Hysteresis

Hi Meglos,
This site is highly regarded and should answer your question. Unfortunately it does state after 6 years you must have all the paperwork, but I've only scanned it quickly:

Re: PPI and the FOS
Hi there
Yes the FOS will take your complaint on if its older than the last 6 years, if the business is and was regulated via FSA prior to these "GISC" at the time you taken out the policy you should be fine, they did resolve one of mine and hubby's credit card ppi cases that were taken out in 2001.
I know some businesses may argue that you should have dealt with this earlier, but if you only became aware of the mis selling recently there's no reason why you cannot make a reclaim.Last edited by di30; 9th March 2011, 23:09:PM.

The FOS upheld my complaint, although it took around 8 months, and forced the Scabbey Abbey to pay back all of the PPI, interest plus compensation.
This completed early in 2010, so as far as I can see nothing should have changed recently, unless the FOS are less generous towards claimants today than they were a year or so ago. Thanks!

The link says quite clearly (quote)
What happens if the PPI policy ended more than 6 years ago and you have no paperwork?
Please note that if the PPI policy ended more than 6 years ago AND you have no paperwork then it will be very difficult to claim PPI back. This is because the lenders or PPI insurance providers only have to keep back PPI paperwork for 6 years.
New Rules to get old PPI complaints re-opened.
New rules could see thousands of old complaints about PPI reopened. The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has given more time for around people to complain about being mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI).
The question I have is: does this mean that I can complain to the FSA if the FOS don't look at it? Is the FSA the next tier up from the FOS?
