  • Lloyds TSB PPI claim only for me!

    Hi All

After reading the many posts i did not relaise there is such a problem with PPI and i thought i would put my situation on here for advise.

I originally took out a personal (consolidation) loan with my wife for £25k and we went through the normal procedures and opted to take out PPI as it was such a large amount.
My wife has been Ill now for nearly a year and unfortunatley it looks like she might have MS. On that note i have looked at all our finances and contacted Lloyds to make a claim. They informed me that the policy is in my name only and i would only be able to claim if i become a full time carer.

At first i accepted that but then i realised that the loan is in both our names and based on both our circumstances orignally so why would the PPI be in my name only?
As i looked further into it i realised that we are paying £93.00 per month for this PPI where my private life insurance policy is £65 per month for 350k?

I am thinking of stopping the policy at least as i am insured (i wasnt at the time) and save some money. But now i have seen all the problems i want to make a genuine claim and i also have no paperwork that says i am the policy holder only.

    Any advice guys?

    Hi and welcome

So sorry to hear about your wife, and hope you both get through this.

Was your wife also employed at the time you taken out the policy?
And they only recommended single cover?

If your protected (its best to be covered in case of the unfortunate), that is fine, and I take it your separate insurance cover will also protect the loan?

You can of course cancel at any time, but with it being Lloyds and its an ongoing active policy, they may possibly suggest that you take out a new loan without the PPI, to pay off the exisiting loan with PPI, so in this case and your reasons, you could of course give it a go on the reclaiming.

I would follow the reclaiming procedures from this website.
Also just to state, if you hear absolutely nothing from them after 8 weeks have passed, then take your complaint to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS).

Please also wait for opinions from other members from this site too if you want to.

Ask for any help when required.
    Good luck.

Forgot to mention, if you no longer have the details of the policy, they should supply these to you on request for free, this is a policy booklet which explains the terms and conds of the PPI.
