Even if Mr Justice Ousley says no to appeal they can still appeal to the court so a waiting game on that but I guess we will have to wait and read the judgment to get the feel of the judges words.

A waiting game now for Tom to report back to Amethyst. He will have a copy of the Judgment and no doubts Ame will work though it and post up.

But all in all a very good result and the banks will be scrutinising there next move if any

                  13/10/10

The BBA's members will continue to handle all PPI-related complaints in accordance with FSA rules. Where the assessment of the complaint would not be affected by the judicial review, these complaints will be handled in the normal way. If your complaint will be impacted by the judicial review, and cannot be resolved at this point, then your bank will write to inform you.

We are presently reviewing the judgment very carefully and considering whether to pursue an appeal. Until we have decided whether or not to pursue an appeal, any complaints that are directly affected by the judicial review and can not be decided now will be placed on hold, and we will continue to work closely with the FSA to ensure that all complaints are appropriately handled.

Customers should be assured that all complaints will be reviewed - even those delayed by this judicial review process. There is no deadline for receipt of complaints. If customers have a problem regarding PPI they should contact their bank and, if necessary, complain in the normal way."

"Judgment was handed down by the High Court in London on 20 April 2011, following the legal challenge ("judicial review") brought by the British Bankers Association (BBA) – on behalf of a number of high-street banks – against the Financial Ombudsman Service and the FSA on the approach to handling PPI complaints.

The judgment endorses the approach taken by the ombudsman and the FSA. The banks have 21 days to consider whether to appeal.

The ombudsman service continues to handle large volumes of PPI complaints from consumers. Since the BBA launched its legal challenge in October 2010, the ombudsman has been receiving up to 5,000 PPI complaints each week.

The lack of cooperation from some financial businesses has made it difficult to progress PPI cases over this period. However, the clear-cut judgment means that banks and other financial businesses should now be in the position to deal promptly, efficiently and fairly with their customers' PPI complaints."

Well the time is even more rip now for the FSA to hand out the fines to those banks that do not comply indeed time for the FSA to show some teeth.

Not particularly, I went to the BBA site and looked for current statement.
On the old www the banks have until 10th May if they are going to appeal.

I am literally overwhelmed to be honest, didn't know what to expect, but see what happens now about the appeal.
Good news right now though, lets hope it stays this way.
