I had an Abbey credit card back before 2000. This was eventually sold to MBNA. When I moved abroad, I had an argument over repayments and they sold the debt to the lovely people at Lowells.
After they just about every rule about collections protocol, I eventually, beat them, since when I CCA'd them, they could not get Abbey to find a copy of the original CCA.
Apparently records do not go back that far. (have they ever heard of computers?).
As Lowell's had actually purchased the debt they lost out, as there was an alleged debt of around 10500 pounds. It was written off-see my threads elsewhere on here.
It was after this time that i decided to challenge the PPI insurance payments that I had made, as it was mis-sold to me.
When I first wrote to Abbey to ask for a refund of PPI premiums due to mis-selling I got the usual brush off. They claimed that it was not mis-sold and that the date was outside the time-limits for referral.
To anyone reading this, don't believe their illegal bulls**t answers. OK, they made a mistake, but at least when caught out, they could admit to things and put everything right. But no, not Abbey. Having scammed the money from me, they tried not to pay it back.
I wrote to the FOS.
I just got a letter back from Abbey. It says:
Please note that as your debt is no longer owned by MBNA, any current balance outstanding with the third party purchaser will remain your responsibility.
Eeermm.....Lowell's wrote it off ages ago.......
As previously with my success on here, I have made a donation to this site in thanks of all the free assistance that I haver received and hope that all others do likewise when they have a success.

It has been brought to our attention that in our original response we advised that the FOS would not be able to deal with your complaint due to it being outside the time-limits for referral. This was an oversight on our part. Although we still believe this iis the case, it is up to the FOS to decide whether it is in within the their time-limits for referral.
We would like to apologise for this oversight and as a gesture of goodwill we have awarded you 150 pounds.
The details of your refund are as follows:
PPC 716.88 pounds
Associated interest: 74.78 pounds (not sure how they worked that out??)
Gesture of Goodwill 150.00 pounds (they used a capitalG for Goodwill????)
Total: 941.66 pounds
Strangely, they also added:We would like to apologise for this oversight and as a gesture of goodwill we have awarded you 150 pounds.
