Well the BBA would say that wouldn't they:

The point-of-sale ban
We maintain our view that a point-of-sale ban carries significant potential for customer detriment. We
note that your report acknowledges this could lead to a reduced proportion of customers taking out
protection policies for their credit product. This would leave customers exposed to risks, as the
economic environment becomes more challenging and unemployment is predicted to rise.
Customers value the opportunity to buy protection together with the credit product in order to reduce
their search costs and to have peace of mind right from the start of the credit agreement. Experience
of one of our members, Nationwide, showed that when the sale of PPI was decoupled from the credit
point of sale, levels of cover dropped to three percent. If extrapolated to the UK market, that would

leave the majority of consumers with inadequate protection.

If you remove the word customer and put in the word lender, it speaks volumes of truth
