Hi, new here.
About 6 weeks ago I received a phone call from RW claiming I owe British Gas money from 2007. I informed them I was unaware of any monies owed to BG. I lived with my mum at the time and she had a pre payment meter but they said the debt was for that address. Anyway they told me they would put the account on hold for 30 days so I could provide them proof that I was living with my mum, well 1. I don't speak with my mum any more and 2. as far as I am aware it is up to them to prove the debt is mine, not up to me to prove it isn't mine?
I haven't heard anything since until this morning when I received a letter saying a local representative will do a house call to arrange a payment plan. I have printed out a sample letter informing them to provide me with proof it is in fact my debt or cease contact. (sample letter from national debt helpline site)
What is the deal with RW? will they send bailiffs round? I'm quite scared here, we can hardly afford to put the heating on and we have an 18 month old little boy
so there is no way I wan't to be having to pay a debt I know nothing about
