  • CRIME WATCH REF MINISITrY OF JUSTICE

Yesterday, they highlighted a pensioner who was suposedly called from the Ministry of Justice and told him that they had £5k in refunds to come back to him. All he had to do was to buy £200 in UKASH vouchers and await the next call.

The then suppossed Minisitry of Justice called him back and asked for the unique number on the OKASH vouchers this meant that they could then cash this money. They told the pensioner that very soon they would be sending the money.

Then further calls came, and he was told that they needed more money etc..... this pensioner got taken completely in and instead of receiving sums of money they literally took all his cash - of course he never ever saw the £5k that they said was waiting for him.

The Ministry of Justice DO NOT cold call people under any circumstances.

The Minsity of Justice DO NOT have access to any refunds.

The Ministry of Justice Will NOT ask you for upfront fees.

In fact the Ministry of Justice WILL NEVER contact you.

This was a total scam and this poor elderly gentleman was completely suckered in to being taken advantage of and it appears they got away with quite a large sum of money before he realised that he was NEVER going to receive a refund.

The elderly are vunerable, they are taken advantage of by these scammers as well as any other unsuspecting folk. He was also told not to mention this to anyone - like the Ministry of Justice would say something like that.

Please everyone be vigilent and if you know any elderly folk who are suddenly going out to buy UKASH vouchers and have been having some calls from people purporting to be from the Ministry of Justice, please get this matter reported to the police as soon as possible. This is a very nasty crime and these people are crooks and need stopping and being caught.

Well I never heard of these vouchers but I have had a look and you have to register etc to get the vouchers, surely there must be some safety net with these things as they do say"The convenient and safe way to pay online

Believe that, and you'll believe anything. That's why we're all here, now, I reckon Enaid. We all used to believe that, once upon a fable.

What happened in this case and many like these scams, they phone you back and you give them the unique id number and they can then go and collect the cash. If you don't give the scammers the number they cannot do anything with it. They are not traceable once cashed and as long as the scammers have that unique number they just get away with it and will keep getting away with it. They seem to attract the elderly and will tell them about all this money they have to come back and they somehow believe them as they say they are from the Ministry of Justice.

That is why we have to be vigilent and make sure that the elderly are not taken in by these rogues.
