  • New CMC association launched

An outfit called the 'Association of Professional Claims Managers' has been launched who by all accounts are trying to distinguish themselves from the skank merchants.

The good news is that their code of conduct exceeds the requirements of the MOJ in that they insist on no upfront fees, a maximum charge of 29% (+vat) of any settlements and 'no cold calling in person' - whatever 'in person' means.

The bad news is that they have attracted a grand total of just 5 member firms.

are 'no win, no fee' firms for employment issues, also regulated at all? I thought I was using a solicitors firm, but now I think it is a Claims Management firm? and I suspect the use of para legals predominantly could avoid the Law Ombudsman in terms of responsibility for advice given?

They themselves do not appear to be MOJ authorised, but the 5 companies that are listed all have MOJ authorisations. So I suppose that is good news for anyone looking for a CMC they should only use a company where they work over and above the requirements of the MOJ by not paying any upfront fees and where they know what the charges are before they start and sign any paperwork.

I don't understand why they have to have an association as all the companies listed have been around for a long time many advertising on the TV, newspapers and radio.

They are only doing this because they make very easy money and would prefer we thought they were all on the consumers side and only there to help us.
Have a google on the 5 firms listed I have had a look at 2 and they are not very well liked on MSE.
