shocking that, i wander if it was a council/ housing association owned property that they got evicted from. Doesn't say in the article. And i wander why none of the automatic protections did not kick in ( like HB being paid direct to LL or HA, or if adult social care had been notified ).
Very sad state of affairs when you have romanian gypsies on TV boasting of ripping the benefits systems off to the tune of Ł 40kpy, yet people like this old couple, slip through the net and end up on the street..

If this elderly couple approached the churches, they may be able to help and many do but some, especially in cities, get overwhelmed. Of course they are unlikely to help drunks and the law prevents them helping those aged under 18..

I do know there are a lot of Christian organisations out there willing to help people in this situation but I think it is disgraceful that people who have probably paid taxes all their lives and may have even fought in WWII to are reduced to begging for charity. :sad:
Security should be a right when you have done so much for your country. Speaking of which, is anyone else peed off when pop stars etc.who have lived their lives abroad to avoid paying tax during the tough 70’s and80’s then come back to retire when income tax goes down and get a knighthood to thank them!!!!! Sorry, going off on one again!:mmph:

Nope, if someone wanted 80 - 90% of my income in tax I'd sure as hell run to another country

Especially when quite a few of them have done LOADS for charity



However, OT......

I agree this is utterly disgraceful, about time we started focusing on our own and told the rest of the world to sort their own crap out (especially when the ŁM's in aid we donate seem to more often than not turn into a dictators exotic car collection rather than feeding the hungry!)

Very true.:sad: I guess I might do the same, but then there were a lot of ordinary people who could not get away. There are also so, so many people who do wonderful things for charity. Tireless workers who will never get any national recognition because they are not famous. Good to see Martin on MSE getting recognised though. I remember when lollipop ladies and similar people got orders but now it just seems to be a lot flashy celebs that support the government or people who fund them.

I think there are probably a fair few amongst the Celeb lot that we have no idea quite how much they donate because they genuinely 'do a lot of great work for 'charidee' mate, but I don't like to talk about it"

Now, that is another thing! Why do people cry racism everytime someone says ‘let us look after our own first’? I do not believe in using terms like ‘Bongo Bongo land (Remember that!) but I must admit I find it hard to see people in this country going hungry and having to go to Food Banks. We do have malnourished people in this so called developed country. We do have Illiterate people. We do have people dying for want of proper medical care. We do have people sleeping on the streets. And now we have had legal aid budgets slashed we do not have a right to appropriate legal representation. It is hard to accept the old line ‘lack of funding’ when we know our government is sending millions abroad as well as all the voluntary collections for charity.

Well, everywhere I ever worked I was called Paddy. Even a college tutor used to call me paddy. My husband calls me nick knack (paddywack). Never bothered me. It must be wonderful life if you can just sit around waiting to be offended.

I find it disgusting that people in this day and age are going hungry ANYWHERE on the planet, but the fact that Foodbank use is rising here is just frightening . We have malnutrition in the UK on a HUGE scale, and still see daily reports on childhood obesity! When I first moved to the house I am in now, my neighbours made a point of telling us the best way to get to McDonalds and KFC, and gave us a bunch of different pizza shop menus - all we'd asked was where the supermarket was. I came to the conclusion pretty quickly that the major problem (round here at least) is that the parents/adults just don't know HOW to cook healthy meals. The local kids were amazed when we dug our allotment, and planted veg and fruit - they couldn't understand why anyone would bother when the chippy was just around the corner. They enjoyed getting tasters of our produce when it was grown tho' :heh:
