We need help as being asked to pay back £46k by HMRC for overpayments.

I suppose the first question would be is this a genuine overpayment ?
Was it caused by a mistake on the part of HMRC or by wrong info disclosed ( might be a change of circumstances)

That is a huge amount. Can you say what happened?
