  • Default appeared on my account

Hi I was just wondering if anybody knows what to do in my situation, there was a leak in my property I rent around 6 years ago and when I left the property I was left with a whopping bill that I was unaware of until last year which once I realised I started to pay off over a monthly payment plan even though I don't think I should of had to pay as I was only there 8 months and the bill is a 4 figure sum.i have an experience account as I am trying to apply for a mortgage and in January this year a default account started from Welsh water who I have the payment plan set up with.my query is whether the default if there should even be one should of started when the debt was accrued as I have never missed a payment since realising and now has caused massive affect on my credit score thus making it extremely frustrating whilst applying for a mortgage.any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Good afternoon, welcome to LB,
If you were renting the property surely the land lord would be responsible for and leak within the property??

What is the default date on the Experian file?

    How much is owed?

    Are you still paying now?

It is possible that WW are preparing to sell the debt on if the payments are not reducing the debt fast enough.

      Thanks for your response,
Yes we thought this however the cheeky begger went into outer house without our permission and had the leak repaired himself without WW knowing anything about it.
      The default date is 09/01/2016
I still owe just under £1200 and we pay this off £24 a month
Well what's confusing is that we thought that the debt was sold onto a DCA as we had a call off them to setup the payment plan however on the experian file it says Welsh water?
But surely this debt should not be a defaulted account should it? If so should of started when the debt was made?
      Kind regards

I'm presuming that you were responsible for the utility bills for the house?
You say originally that this arose years ago? How did you become aware of the bill?

Yes we were responsible for the utilities. From the phone call off the DCA was the first I heard off this around 3 years after leaving the property so then set up a payment plan with them and then all of a sudden this default appears with a date started this year....very confusing.

I think you should be making a Formal Complaint to WW get the name of the CEO and write directly to them.
