• 6th April 2014 new regulation Bailiffs

I have paid my council tax last November (late) all full year and paid the council tax penalty, the bailiffs came and said I have to pay now £75 + £235
What should I do?

Hi Jbohbot to LB!

Can you explain a bit more please?
1. Was it last years or this years CT you were behind with?
2. Did the council get a liability order against you?
3. Were bailiffs involved (to your knowledge) before you paid in full?
4. Did you get a letter from the bailiffs advising you of their intended visit 7 days before it occurred?
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

OK @bizzybob or Milo will know for sure (I've tagged them), but I believe that legally the bailiffs have to give you 7 clear days notice BEFORE they visit.
Did you get a letter from the council saying they were going for a LO?
Did you get a letter from the council after to say the LO was granted (and bailiffs would be called in if it was not paid)?

Have you been in touch with the council (or bailiffs) to make sure the account is showing as settled?

I have not been in touch with anyone yet, wanted to ask first for an advice, but yes the bailiffs knows that everything is payed (settled), he claimed his £310, but i just closed my door and told him to leave the building. I have received the letter from the council yes! I saw all the letters when I came back from my trip.

You could try complaining to the council ... how far behind were you?

How long were you away for? Do you have any proof?

my thoughts are ... you should contact the council (enclosing your proof of living away AND payment of the CT bill) and request that they recall the debt from the bailiffs. Which council are you under?

As you could notice my first language is not english , so do you think this would be correct?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you are fine.

I recently had the visit from bailiff from EQUITA, I was very surprise as I paid the whole year council tax from April 2015 to April 2016 in November with a penalty fee for been late. I Would like to apologise for been late but I have been away for the whole summer (I will provide the tickets if you require at any point). I would like to request from you to recall the debt from the bailiffs.

My sincerely apology for all the inconvenience and hope to hear soon from you.

Regards,
