Jacobs! Refusing to hold off action despite Berevement

Hi. I owed council tax and Jacobs took over the debt earlier this year.
I've paid most of it off and owe £141 now. I have struggled to clear this as I was off work between April and September (I wasn't entitled to any benefits but my wage was down by about £500 a month).

I'd agreed to clear it on the 26th september when I got paid. Sadly my father passed away on 23/9 and I'm his next of kin, he had no estate etc and I've been left with the bill for his funeral.

I've phoned Jacobs up today to explain the situation and tell them it will be cleared on 26th October when I get paid again, but the woman on the phone has point blank refused to hold off any bailiff action as I've not stuck to the agreement.

It wouldn't be so bad but if bailiffs do attend they'll charge me an additional £235 for the privalidge.

What can I do? Any advice will be gratefully received.

I know it's my own fault but I'm so cross, I've cleared the bulk of the debt and I'm just asking for 11 days grace to recover from loosing my father and paying his funeral.

It's so pathetic the way we are treated by these companies!

I recently had a phone call with Jacobs explaining I would pay £40.00 then go on to pay the amount in full a month later - I loose my job, and continue to pay £40.00 a month later, because no "agreements" were explained to me, then I receive a letter saying bailiffs are coming round with a £200+ fee ontop - I ring Jacobs and explain -- answer: no, sorry... you broke your original agreement.
