  • Newlyn Plc (baliffs) need advice please

Hi, my husband received a parking fine via the council from parking at Cliftonville in Northampton (the road by the hospital a&e entrance). I had given birth via emergency c section and had to stay in several days so he purchased a week long permit from the hospital. The road says permit only and that is where he parked (believing he was covered). We appealed to the parking notice with this response and never heard anything again so assumed it had been dealt with. My husband had a voicemail 2 days a go asking him to call a company called Newlyn and no further info was given. Last night we came home to a red letter posted through the door from Newlyn saying they came to collect £422 and we needed to call a mobile number immediately as a baliff was instructed. The number was switched off when we tried to call. This morning at 7am a man turned up in almost like a police uniform saying he was a baliff from Newlyn. He needed £422 immediately and could not leave without it or would have to take our car (worth £10k). I asked what it was for and he said the parking fine and the rest was their fees and enforcement fees. I explained about our appeal and having no further notices or warning of this but he didn't care. I was alone with my 9 month old (husband gone to work already) in my pjamas at the door not knowing what to do. I told him I needed to move some money around when the bank opened at 8 so he sat in his van outside our house waiting. At 8.15 he came back to the door and I just paid him. I know I probably shouldnt have paid before getting advice and he probably couldnt have come in to the house or taken the car etc but at the time I was stressed about it all. Is there anything I can now do to get any money back? They can keep the £70 if the appeal was not approved but surely they cant just instruct a baliff with no notices or warnings to us and then add over £300 worth of fees?

Just giving this a bump and hopefully someone with the right knowledge will come along soon to give the right advice

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!
