  • lowell has incorredtly added a default on my credit report

i had about 5 credit cards back in 2004 and 2005 which due to financial crises i defaulted on all of them, i did not make any payments since may 2009 ( i remember because i lost my job). I have been dealing with cash since and pay as you go, I have got a well paid job now and was thinking to buy a house, I thought may 2009 and now it has been 6 years and 5 months and all my defaults should be off the credit report but was shocked to see lowells who bought the credit card debt from lloyds and registered the default on my credit file on feb 2015.
i am not sure where did they get this date from as I did not pay or acknowledge any of my five creditors since may 2005.
I am not sure what is the best course of action to take,
dispute the entry on credit file with experian or write to them direct.
any suggestions will be much appreciated.

sorry the date lowell registered the default was actually feb 2013 and not feb 15 as mentioned above.

Seems to me they have added the default when they purchased the account ,not when defaulted

You say Lloyds, is this a bank account, overdraft or credit card with Lloyds??

        Hi welcome to LB.

Can you tell me the name of the original credit card provider for this debt?
Some credit file entries are getting rather confusing, could this be the date
Lowell updated the original entry made by the creditor.

A debt purchaser such as Lowell cannot change the original creditors default date.

If possible can you post a suitably redacted copy of the credit file entry please.

the orginal creditor was lloyds. as I received a letter from lowell offering me 50 percent off on the balance to settle it and the letter mentions the original creditor was lloyds

You can always ask Lloyds for the information on the default date, as said Lowell can't change the original.
However that have been quite a few cases were Lloyds with all the upheaval and trouble with the various
mergers/ takeovers where accounts have been registered unreasonably late.
If Lowell are offering discounts already my guess is the have little to go on.

Ignore the Offer and send Lowell a CCA request ( template in the forum library) for a copy of the agreement for this
credit card. There is £1 statutory fee to pay use a cheque of postal order endorsed "for statutory fee only" Lowell
has 12 + 2 Working days to comply.
Use signed for post check delivery date.

do you suggest I should dispute with the credit agency in the meanwhile?

The credit reference agencies rely solely on the data provided by creditors, they will refer to Lowell only.
You can place a notice of dispute on your credit file, but you will need to do this on all 3 main agencies
Call Credit/ Experian/Equifax, bear in mind the CRA's cannot change the entries only the original creditor
                can do this.

                  thanks
I will send them cra request and will update upon their reply,
would there be a problem as I have been ignoring their earlier letters and will only be responding to the one I received with 50 percent discount.
                  Regards

No problem as long as your response did not acknowledge liability for the debt.
