  • Equita.....my god help

hi all i need some advise, i moved out of a property as my landlord was selling it in july 2014, now i hold my hands up i did not pay my council tax april may and june 2014 i dont dispute that, the property was empty until feb 2015 when it eventually sold all relevent partys were told if my moving etc so all responsibilities were passed back to the landlord, now since i have been in my new property i have recieved 30+ letters off equita with various amounts of council tax owed different account numbers pins etc which i know my landlord hasnt bothered paying while the property was empty, they are also chasing someone who previously lived here in my new property for an amount that funnily enough is the same as one there asking me for!!! i will not under any circumstances deal with those bullys so i contacted the council telling them when i moved and who the landlord was as he was resposible for the council tax and asking for a complete written breakdown as to how they presume i owe this money they have just ignored me completly and the debts are just passing back and forth between the council and equita as equita class it as uncollected because i won't acknowledge them as i said i freely admit i owe 3 months worth of council tax which given the chance i will pay, but how can i sort this mess out when they will not acknowledge i dont owe this money i refuse to pay debts that are not mine please help

OK ... first off you need to contact the council to find out:
      • how many liability orders they have against you
      • the dates they apply to
      • when they were passed to Equita

and WRITE to Equita to say the account is in dispute and requesting they put things on hold for the time being.

When you've got that info, post back on here and I know you'll get lots of help from the Beales xx
