  • Bailiff because of an ex's debt

A year ago my ex partner loved out.
He's left behind debt and now I have bailiffs on the door. He's in the states and refuses to help. They won't take it that he's moved out, and say there's nothing they can do once the bailiffs are ordered. I'm stressed out so much and worrying everytime I go work and leave my house. Where do I stand? Has anyone else had this?

What is the Debt for? Have you signed anything? No the bailiffs cannot enforce against a third party . nor can they enter your home . Watch that they dont try a and clamp your car to get payment . you need to give the Bailiff (Enforcement agent) you ex new address and write to the creditors and ea with this information. Wait until later in the day and there will be knowledgeable people about.

As said, don't worry about it too much and others will be along with the practical steps you can take.

I just wanted to say I really enjoyed the (probably auto-correct) typo!:tinysmile_twink_t2:

        HI

What kind of debt is this, is it a fine, or is it a civil debt like a parking ticket or council tax, county court judgment etc. ?
