  • Recorded Delivery letters

If I post an important letter (to the local council) by recorded delivery and I have the confirmation of receipt - and then the council says, ah yes but that is only the envelope confirmed as received - there could have been any letter in there - or nothing at all, so its not proof that they have had the letter, any ideas what I might do??

Sound like they are playing silly burgers. I would do the following ,
Get your document prepared and scanned onto your computer.
Ring the person your letter is addressed to and as for the document. k for their fax and email address.
While you are talking to them on the mobile and recording the call send the document by fax and as an email . ask them specifically if they have recieved the documents get a yes or no answer. If yu can get to the council office take a copy and get a receipt.
Normally however a document is deemed served the day after posting if sent first class. What is it they are trying not to receive?

Fax a copy via the local library. That will give you a transmission receipt.

Other possibilities are internet to letter such as http://www.pc2paper.co.uk/mainpage.asp from which you can send a recorded letter online, I don't know if a record of contents is kept.
Internet to fax is also possible.
Email with a delivery receipt (not a read receipt although that could be used also) is also possible.
