  • Missing default date causing issues

    Hi all,
I had a CU loan in 2015 default and get CCJ in 2017. I defaulted on 10+ lenders/accounts during the same time period, resulting in multiple defaults and 3 CCJs. I eventually paid off all accounts and satisfied all CCJs. Then just a waiting game for all accounts to fall off based on various original default dates. I did notice years ago that this one account didn’t have a default date, but I was overwhelmed at the prospect of getting that corrected and kicked the can down the road until the rest of my file was nearly clean anyway/it could actually make a difference.

7 years later and all my defaults, CCJ, any bad markers have fallen off besides this account. I want to apply for a mortgage. I now need to ask the CU to add a default date to this account, as without it, its sitting there still on my report showing 2 years of missed payments. This is incorrect- I defaulted and was issued a CCJ in 2017 and the account never came right again until 2021. (I started paying a reduced amount to the CU after they issued the CCJ, which I eventually stopped paying in 2019, causing them to pass the account off to Dublix, who I then paid monthly until settling in full in 2021.)

I need to ask the CU if they’ll simply add the default date without needing to escalate, but am not sure how to best approach them. I’m actually still a member- they never closed my savings account, and I’ve paid in small amounts in recent years and it currently has about £100 in it. I assume I should contact them in the first instance in writing (email), but am not sure if the tone should be 'hey can you fix this' versus very formal and use some sort of template etc. Does anyone have a template for requesting a default date be added when one is incorrectly missing?
    Thank you!

    Hi Snowsteal

    Welcome to LB

    This sounds straightforward.
Write to them tell them, they have incorrect information on your Credit File.
    It needs to be corrected.

Send the following, get Proof of Postage.

    https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/yo...ata-corrected/

If they refuse, make a formal complaint, follow their complaints procedure on their website (this may take some time).

If you not happy with their response make a complaint to the ICO.

Thank you very much for your reply!

I certainly hope it is straightforward!

It will delay me three business days if I have to print and send via post (not in a position to for at least 4 days from now), what do you think about first sending via email and only sending via physical post with proof of postage if I don't hear back an acknowledgement of the email by the time that was the soonest I could have gotten to post office anyway?

Also, if they ignore the email and then ignored a physical post letter, how long would you wait to make a formal complaint? a few days ? a week? etc?

I am under very tight time constraints to get this fixed on CR as there's a lot of other moving parts that I won't go into, but I want to do everythign as quickly as possible down to the day, hence why thinking about things like writing an email initially would save me at least 4 calendar days to get the process started, etc. If going straight in with a formal complaint would save a week, should I consider doing that?

        Email is fine.

I think you need to send the email, reassess once they respond.
Update when you get a response.
