I have had an account with an online store for years but I have never used it.
I have just found out that for several years my sister has been buying stuff on the account under my name. She changed the address and email to hers and changed the passwords. She has bought several thousand of pounds of tech goods. She has always bought the goods under a "buy now pay in twelve months" plan. This is an account where if you pay in twelve months there is no interest. If you dont pay, then punishing interest is added.
The good news is that she has always, without exception, paid for the goods within the 12 months. So everything has been Ok. There is currently £3200 owing and she intends to pay it off as the 12 month preriods expire.
However, I am now applying for a DRO. As this account is in my name, then it has to be included in the DRO. If this happens, then after the 12 months, the debt gets written off and my sister gets the goods for free. I am Ok with her benefiting, but I am very concerned that this might be seen as fraud.
I really dont know what to do. Do i just leave things as they are with the debt in the DRO and risk getting caught for fraud if someone finds out that the account has always been settled by someone else?
what happens if she tries to pay off the debt during the time that the DRO is in force?
Do i confess all to the DRO company and risk getting rejected?
Or should I do something else?
Any advice on how best to proceed?
