hello - need some advice for my mother.
at the start of COVID she went through difficult mental issues, and seen a therapist. after about 10 sessions she could not pay anymore and a debt was left as a result. the therapist was quite sensitive and understanding at the time, but kept asking for the unpaid sessions through 2020. they left it unclaimed since, but only recently attempted to contact her again.
last week we recieved a formal demand of payment for those unpaid sessions, threatening legal action through the small claims court and additional interest and court costs. the sum involved in £600.
my mother is considering whether to pay it or risk court proceedings. the service received from the therapist was not successful or as expected, yet she does owe the unpaid sessions.
my question is, what is the risk beyond the sum owed if this proceeds as a small claim, and how - if at all - can we argue against the service recieved considering it's all confidential and mostly opinion-based......
