  • Old shortfall debt

Split from the ex wife and had to move out and rent. Had the house repossession in 2012, ex refused to sell and refused to let me take it on, wouldn’t sign anything regarding the house, informed the bank, there response was to get it repossessed as not much else I can do. Left £25,000 shortfall which I couldn’t pay back as I was renting and living alone. Payed £1 token payments for 4 year then stopped, asking the solicitors to write the debt off as prospects were dire and felt house was undervalued and had bad advise. Never got a reply.
I now have moved on and rebuilt my life with new partner and kids and a mortgage, I’ve never heard from bank or solicitors for just over 7 years but have started getting nightmares of this coming back to haunt me. What are my best options if they come for this shortfall? I could only manage around £50 p/m!! TIA.

Thanks for the link ECHAT11 I’ll use this if I’m contacted by someone about the shortfall…..im wondering if they accepted my email to write it off would they have giving me written confirmation? 7 year without any contact is a long time!! It’s not good for your mental health not knowing if the next letter is a demand for payment that you’ll struggle to pay back especially when you feel you were not responsible for how things worked out.

Update the thread if they make contact.
