Hi
I've been paying Lowell £5 a month for a credit card debt now for around a year.
I suddenly received a text saying, they want to talk to me. I didn't phone them. Then I received a letter from them asking to ring them regarding a £1600 Provident debt from 2010!!
I haven't spoke to them, as I'm unsure what to do, and I was assuming this debt would be Statute Barred.
I've not heard anything from them in over 2 weeks, but I'm worried as I only work part time and receive Universal Credit.
Can anyone help me?

If you haven't made a payment or admitted the debt in writing in the last 6 years, then the debt is statute barred.

What you also need to check is if they have obtained a CCJ for the debt, in that case it wouldn't be statute barred.

Even if there is a CCJ, they would have difficulty because of the period that has elapsed. You could send the a statute barred letter - https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...ed-debt-letter

Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

They've just sent me a letter saying ,pay £800, instead of £1600!
I shall send them a letter, as you advised.
