  • Barclaycard and terminal illness

I posted awhile ago about my husband having terminal cancer and not being able to keep up barclaycard payments.

I sent off a cca request by recorded delivery which was received by them in February, we've had no reply to it.

They have frozen all charges and interest and wanted a letter confirming diagnosis and income/expenditure which we sent off, this shows we have no spare money to pay the debt and I offered £1 a month for the time being.

Today he received a letter to say thankyou for confirming diagnosis and sent a default notice, they said they wont expect him to make payments at the moment but if he feels he can make a payment plan please phone them and they will never ask him to pay more than he can afford.
in bold it says we understand your current circumstances and as such we're not expecting you to make a payment.
It finishes by saying your account will be on hold until further notice.

They haven't mentioned excepting the £1 he's offered so should we just carry on paying that each month until they decide they want more?
I'm just not sure how long it may be put on hold for and what they can do next?

You should really keep to the original thread.

I would be tempted to ask them to write off the debt, see what they say, they might say yes. Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

If you need more input, just ask.
