I'll try to be short with this but give you the jist of what is happening.
I bought a car in the 1980s which was financed by Welcome Finance, Total bill was around £10,000
I never missed a payment and though I paid way over the price for the car, I had no problems.
About 8 or 9 years ago I received a letter from Welcome to say they have sold my account to another finance company, and this company would be in contact within 14 days.
No contact was received, tried phoning the number I had for Welcome, the phone was no longer in existence, I emailed them,, no reply, so thought if they want the money (£273.82p ) they would contact me.
I received a letter 2 weeks ago from Lowell Finance demanding £7,042.95p for my non payment on my Welcome Finance account.
I phoned them on a premium number and was told that they now held the account and payments must be paid to them.
I stated that I hold no contracts under the name Lowell Finance and will definitely not pay over £7,000 for a bill under £300.
They tried to say that this was an accrued non payment and interest rates over the years of non payments, They said if a payment is not received they will take me to court and have bailiffs take goods to the value of the debt,, I told them to take me to court and hung up on them.
Am I due this money to Lowells or have they just bought the contract from Welcome.
