Lowell sent a letter to say they had bought a debt in November 2008 (hubby's). He said he had never written to them or paid anything so we sent the statute barred letter. However they have now replied with this....what do we do now please?

Re: HELP what do we do now?
Did you pay anything on those dates?
Payments were (according to the letter) made through "Philips Homecoll" - and a quick search shows that they were a Doorstep Collection service launched in 2008 by Phillips Collection Service Ltd (debt collectors).
You could check your bank records to see if any payments were made?Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.
It doesn't matter where your journey begins, so long as you begin it...

It may not have been Lowell they were collecting on behalf of at the time, maybe another DCA.

A SAR would be required to obtain bank statements from 2010.

If the payments were made to a doorstep collector, they may have been cash payments rather than cheques, and the amounts are small enough to have been paid cash.

Thanks for your replies - her says he doesn't remember and I certainly haven't paid anybody anything....do we ask them to prove it - or how can we go forward? It looks a bit fishy that there are 2 payments on the same day as well.....
