  • Lowell Finance Frustrations

I've recently received my Equifax Credit Report and was a bit shocked to find the only negatives on there were two entries by a company called Lowell Finance (who I note other members have had issues with in the past). The following summarises the two entries:

    1.
    Current Balance: £5k+
    Start Date: Jun 1994
    Default Date: Aug 2009
    Default and Delinquent balance: £7.5k+
    Date Updated: Feb 2012

    2.
    Current Balance: £1,200
    Start Date: Jan 2007
    Default Date: Dec 2011
    Default/Delinquent Balance: £1,200
    Date: Mar 2012

As I say, I have no idea what these are for as I have not had any unauthorised debts in the past 20 years or so. Neither have I ever received any notification from Lowells, or anyone else about these supposed debts. My issue is that I want them removed from my Credit Report, but am cautious of waking the sleeping lion that is Lowells and then opening the floodgates to their apparent aggressive hassling for payment. I did ask Equifax to look into it but the response was for me to get in touch with Lowells direct, which I am naturally cautious about, given the experiences of others recorded on this site. I have been a Barclays customer for many years (including loans) and I have heard that Barclays have previously passed on debts to Lowells, so not sure if this could be a factor. I'm absolutely fuming that this has happened as the red marks on my report could effect future applications, yet I believe I have done nothing to deserve them. I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could offer any advice. Thanks.

I would suggest checking one or both of the other main CRA's to see if the listing is different in that it shows
the name of the original creditor.
You can also challenge Lowell without acknowledging any debt to them.
I can assist with a draft letter to the correct person within Lowell if you wish.

Sorry for the delay been a busy day!!

Here is the draft for you to edit and use as you see fit.

              Private & Confidential
              Ms Sara de Tute
              Director of Legal & Compliance
              The Lowell Group
              Ellington House

              Leeds
              LS10 1AB.

              Date: xxxxxxxxxxxx

              Ref: Credit Reference Agency Entries:

              Dear Ms de Tute,
              Formal Complaint:

I have recently had cause to check my credit reference files held by xxxxxxxx credit reference agency these show 2 entries made by Lowell of which I have no knowledge and do Not Acknowledge an liability for the alleged debts to which these entries refer.
I enclose herewith screen prints of the file entries for your reference.

I require Lowell to immediately remove the entries from ALL credit reference agencies to which it has reported this alleged accounts and to fully investigate and explain why these incorrect entries have been made on my credit files.

I am making the Credit Reference Agency (s) concerned aware that Lowell is causing incorrect and damaging data to be displayed.

A Formal Complaint allows Lowell 56 days to investigate and respond, given the serious and damaging content of Lowell's entries I would expect a full and prompt response within 7 working days.

Send by signed for post and check receipt.

Please make your own decision on using this and what to add to it.

                Nem,

Apologies for the delay; a heavy weekend. Thanks so much for the draft and the time you've put in to get it together. I have added my details and have it printed off now ready to go but will await the SAR back from Barclays first, just to ensure I am 100% clear of any debt to them in the past. Your point about recorded delivery is a good one and I'll post back when I have hopefully had a response and progressed the issue.

                Cheers,

                P
