  • Rossendales - legal aid contribution fee

    Hello
if anyone could please help! Basically in may my partner had to go to magistrates court in regards to a drug offense he had been charged for. Whilst there he filled out an application for legal aid a couple of weeks after we were sent a letter stating we still needed to send our wage slips which we then did. Then in june we had a letter from rossendales stating that it had been passed to them that we owe the courts £5400. We followed this up with our solicitor and she told us to send her our wage slips again which we then did. Then in july we had another letter from rossendales explaining the same thing. To cut a long story short this repeated every month, more letters from rossendales and more wage slips sent with the courts not telling us anything except for "u need to go through ur solicitor" then on tuesday we decided to go to court and ask what was going on the man there said all we needed was a wage slips from april but there was nothing we could do now because my partners case was finished and we couldnt re apply. Im so confused and angry because if someone had told us this in may we could have sent this damn measly wage slip straight to them. Im 7 months pregnant and about to go on maternity leave and cannot afford this stupid contribution fee or income sanction whatever it is. They are expecting 900 a month from us which we dont have. I Dont know what to do

    Good afternoon,

The best thing you can do is approach the Court Clerk, or contact the Court Office, and ask to explain why you are in the position that you say you are now in.

They are obliged by Law to assist you - or find a Solicitor who deals with Legal Aid applications. BUT ACT NOW, this will not go away, but can be dealt with.

    Best wishes
    Dougal
