Yes, sadly that's the case, their advice is highly inconsistent and can range from spot on to worse than asking the Village Idiot!

There are paid employees but also volunteers, some of whom are totally clueless. I know a former colleague of mine who was volunteering at a CAB a few years ago after becoming unemployed due to the credit crunch, I wouldn't have thought he'd know the first thing about debt, housing, employment, legal issues, etc. Some 'advisors' are just trained to use their intranet system, I remember a lady at a local cab I saw many years ago, all she did was search online, then printed out a list of local high street solicitors. I could have done that myself!

Last visit to CAB years ago with the O.H. culminated with 3 of us in a toilet as no room anywhere to interview, === Me sat on Toilet seat, Advisor leaning on window ledge, and O.H. pushed against the door/wall even a fly could not pass between us, he was an ex Local Lloyds Bank Manger and his advice was you have no money so they can sue you I had just come out of hospital after heart attack). Bloody useless, I found this site and fought back
