Hi,
I received a letter asking if I'd lived at a previous address from Robinson Way about 3 weeks ago. I had done about 10 or 11 years ago & my maiden name was on the letter so I gave them a ring to see what the letter was concerning & they said I owed a debt to Capital One.
I did have problems with debt years ago but I've been debt free for a few years now. I believe I paid the money I owed to Capital One through a collection agency called First Credit Management at the end of 2005 in instalments, although I've moved several times since then & don't have any paperwork to back that up.
I told the person I spoke to that I had no outstanding debt & when he started to ask me for personal details I told him I wasn't going to give any information regarding myself when I don't owe any money.
My husband told me to send them a statute barred letter as the debt was over 6 years old so even if there was some mix up & the other firm hadn't taken the full debt from me they still wouldn't be able to pursue me for it.
This morning I received a notice that RW had transferred my debt to another company but they were handling it. I don't quite understand as the other company appears to have the same address. They still haven't addressed my letter or sent me any proof that I owe the money - just that I owe £445, options to pay & consequences of non payment.
Should I send another letter requesting proof or is this a waste of time? I worked hard to get myself out of the hole I dug myself as a student & I'm equal parts annoyed & worried in case this affects my credit. I want to get rid of this as soon as humanly possible - any advice?
Thanks
