    Hi,

I have returned from a long spell of living abroad, I wish to register on the electoral roll, however on my CRA file there is a default notice from December 2008 for an old Orange internet dongle I had prior to leaving the country the default is only for £45 and tbh it's just something I completely forgot about. My question is this, I know if I register on electoral roll Arrow will track me down and I don't really have an issue with this as it is such a low amount but, if I do and they track me down and I clear the debt how does that affect the CRA entry? as this debt becomes statute barred and drops off my CRA file in December anyway would it be best to wait until then before registering? My concern is if I do the right thing and pay this debt I will somehow adversely impact my credit score for another 6 years? At moment no one is chasing me for any debt.

    any advice greatly appreciated.

By ordering your credit report you will have linked it to your new address anyway, so registering for the electoral role will not cause any further harm.

The credit report entry must be removed 6 years from the default date no matter what. Paying it or not paying it will not change that or do anything to extend the time it can remain on there.
