  • Motor mile chasing dept

    Hello
first time posting so i do apologise in advance.

Had some emails from MMF chasing a dept back in 2008 from Pounds till payday. Around that time i was in a bad place dept wise but checked credit file and have paid all depts off. I have checked my file every month ever since and it has been clear.

After looking at this site I have requested the origional agreement and told them not to turn up on my doorstep etc. Today i have recieved the agreement and a letter stating I do not have the right to tell them not to turn up and to inform the police if I think this is fraud.

I am now requesting bank statements from my bank to see if i did take this out and did default as I genuinely believe all depts were paid off.

I am about to remortgage after all this time to get a better deal and now this. The loan was taken out 2.6.2008 and apparently defaulted on 30.6.2008.

MMF have stated they bought the dept May 2014.

    Please help.

Depends if you have paid any money at all.

If not try and engage for 6 days and let it become statute barred. Meaning they can't get a court order for the money, and can't chase you for it!

I'm going to guess they have brought this for pennies - and are chasing you in the hope that they might get 1 in 2/300 to pay up something. Don't whatever you do pay a penny or the clock starts ticking again!

I personally wouldn't be too worried at this point. Realistically they need to write to you and give you 14 days to apply or court action will be taken. So just pay nothing and go on to having a nice life.

Presuming you have not paid a penny to them at any point then no they can't do anything.

Infact even them writing you a letter or calling you could land them with big fines.

However I've read of the more dubious companies claiming a small payment was made to stretch out the time they can harass you for.

Wait 6 days then if they contact you, ask to make a formal complaint saying you are going to the OFT on them. Although my personal favourite thing to do is to make a complaint and ask for a deadlock letter - if they don't give you it in 8 weeks you can go to the financial ombudsman anyway. You might find they offer you some money to not do this as it costs them £550.
