Hi all,
I have a situation where I have not paid a single congestion charge fine for over 2+ years, each year a different vehicle. Its taken me a while to finally attempt to confront this issue, and to attempt to clear this without leaving me bankrupt.
I live in London for work purposes, I'm not registered at the address I currently live at. The only thing that is registered at the London address is my vehicle, no bank accounts etc registered at the London address either. I started paying congestion charge daily for a year or two before I missed a few...
I purchased a new vehicle and straight away registered it for Congestion charge autopay, I even called to confirm this. Although the vehicle was registered on the autopay system, I didnt realise that I had to 'tick' the appropriate vehicle to confirm the autopay for that specific vehicle. I was registered on the system but my vehicle wasn't on the autopay list. I went months without worrying about any fines, until I noticed no money and no statements were being sent to me. Then the tickets started to come in, I was still not worried assuming there was a problem with their system as I have called to confirm everything beforehand.
Now the tickets have been arriving daily and I've even replaced the vehicles. I have bailiffs delivering letters, but I myself have never been at the property on each occasion. I have no idea what the total amount is, and afraid that the total would be monumental... Hence why I've ignored them.
As far as the bailiffs are concerned, I do not live at the address and nothing I own is within the property. I live with friends.
I want to sort this problem out, but I DO NOT want to contact the bailiffs directly for reasons I have read all over the internet (payment plan refusals etc)
What started as a mistake has been ignored too long and I'm now left here wondering how I'm going to pay the daily congestion charge fines, It would mount up to £££££s and just not possible to pay in one go. Can anyone offer advice on overcoming this situation.
