Non UK resident

I am a non UK resident. I have a debt on my HSBC credit card. My card is registered to my address in France. I have no property or money in the UK. Metropolitan Services are threatening to transfer my account "to a local firm of lawyers who may take Legal Action against you."
I have not contacted Metropolitan - I had hoped they would go away.
Can they pursue me in France?
Should I contact them?
Thanks for any advice.
