  • CapQuest and Natwest threatning letters!!!!!

    Hi everyone,

I am new to this so if this has already been discussed, apologies!! I basically lived in the UK from 2000 to 2008/9. Whilst there, i had an account with natwest. Before i left, i thought i had paid off any overdrafts or balances. I presumed wrong. I have since relocated (have no intentions to move back) and have been receiveing threathning letters from CapQuest on behalf of Natwest saying they will take legal action if i dont pay 850 and they will contact representitives in my country!!!! I am in financial difficulty at the moment and there is no possible way i can pay this amount. My question is this - if i a no longer living in the uk, can they still find me? Am i better to ignore it? Or contact them?

    Any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi and welcome!
Do you own any property in the UK? If you don't, there isn't much they can do.

They could obtain a CCJ against you by default, which would affect your credit for 6 years in the UK; if you don't intend to come back to live here soon, or are not concerned about credit, you have nothing to worry about. They can't enforce the debt abroad, that's just their usual bovine excrement.

Remind them of the celebrated reply in the unreported case of Arkell v Pressdram. (link)
