  • Trying to work out settlement figure

    Hi all newbie here
i have a cahoot flexiloan that i took out back in 07 and due to financial difficulties i ended up defaulting in 09 i didn't hear to much from them and ended up burying my head in the sand as it seemed easier at the time.
the thing is I'm now planning to sell my house to free up some money to put on a smaller home so il only have half the mortgage that I'm paying now.
went to see mortgage advisor and was told come back after a year once the debt is shown as satisfied.
the thing is the debt is for 12k and if i made an arrangement to pay at 100 a month it would take years to clear it. Off the record the advisor told me they have probably written off the debt after 3 years as it was unsecured personal and that i should try making a settlement offer of a lower figure. Im all up for doing so if it means i can sell a few things and raise part of the money he also advised giving the debt management firms a miss as they add there own fees to the bill. Is there a recommended percentage that i could offer for full & final settlement as it hasn't gone to a dca as of yet?
    thanks

Firstly, has the account been formally defaulted?
Do Cahoot still own it or have they sold it?
Were charges added onto the account when you couldn't make the payments?
