Mummy, have just been on the Justice Dept website where it clearly states that
"enforcement agents should take all reasonable steps to satisfy themselves that the value of the goods impounded in satisfaction of the judgement is proportional to the value of the debt and charges owed."

Is it worth my whole quoting that at Marstons I wonder in light of the repeated threat to take my car?

This gets more interesting. The CAB website says:
if you pay off the debt to the creditor but not the bailiff's charges that you owe, the bailiffs can't take goods from you just to recover their own costs. They'll have to take action against you themselves to get the money back.

Am I right in presuming then that the online fee is the debt to the creditor?

This is such a ridiculous complex and archaic system...

Parking tickets can indeed be confusing more so because the Bailiff makes it up as he goes along and hopes you will not notice any discrepancy. I would argue if that is what they let you pay then you should owe no more. After all they are the experts at this and you are relying on them keeping their records and systems up to date.

Very interesting Plodder Tom. Do you think I should text the bailiff to let him know I paid online and not mention the amount until he checks in at Marstons? I have also written to the local authority with regard to the bailiff telling me that instalments were non negotiable ( I have seen advice here that you can go to the borough to negotiate) I have also told them about the threat to take my vehicle which is in clear breach of the Standards suggested on the Justice dept document. I am just taking a deep breath and trusting the CAB website in its guidance that now I have paid off the initial debt he cannot seize my goods. At least it means I may not have to borrow money from relatives to pay but can wait for pay day instead as I cannot see that he will let this go.

If he's reading this he will already know. My view is that he will find out from his office anyway so why make it easy for him. He may well stamp his feet and throw his toys out of the pram but if you maintain a siege mentality, in particular keep your car well away.
