Westcot do not, as far as I know, purchase debts. They could only ever act alongside the OC.

Whether they do or not, the basic point is that they are threatening legal action that they have no right to take and the recipient is reacting as they intend.
Once you start playing their game and paying them, you get trapped into a cycle where you can only lose. You need to make it clear from the outset that you won't deal with them.

I have to agree with the comments about these goons threatning legal action we have a folder here with threats of legal action from 5 debt collectors since 2010 all for the same debt and still they keep coming ,we have never aknowledged any of them also several times the threat of the doorstep collector has been sent no one yet.The only way we will communicate with any of these morons would be through a court

That, to me, seems a slightly mad tactic in certain circumstances. It is frequently advantageous to have a debt with a DCA rather than the OP.

I have had maybe 50 threats of doorstep collection over the years and never had one visit.

Wescot are one of the worst bluffers and should be treated with the contempt they deserve.

I had one, origanally a Bos which was "settled" by a ppi claim, it became complicated as during this time the OC decided to " default" despite being on a payment plan.
It has so far done the rounds of Robinson Way (twice) Blair Oliver Scott, and Wescott! Each have used the threat of court action etc not had any more since September but still ongoing as I have now complained to the ICO about the OCs incompetance regarding the CCA I did ( they paid the fee onto the disputed account, I do have a thread about this, and an SDAR was incomplete and have several errors)

They do purchase debts, see this -> http://www.wescot.co.uk/servicestobusiness.html

We have a long and successful history in debt recovery, locate services and debt purchase and, for the last ten years, we have built a highly regarded, collections outsource business
                .

Same here, wetclothes are one of the most incompetent DCAs around. I've got a pile of 'scary', bright red letters from them threatening all sorts of things, most of which I ignored save for a single account in dispute letter to inform them that the account was unenforceable. They were followed by more letters from their letterheads-for-rent Nelson Guest Puppets who eventually passed the account back to Wetclothes who ended up telling me to send £1 yo RBS for a CCA request! Been there, done that a year earlier!

Account was returned to RBS who passed it to Bagshott Bums Regal and their puppets Scotcall. Haven't heard anything after that, been a year now.

Of course, since they purchase the debts for pennies, they are more likely to accept reduced settlements when applicable. Unless the OP received a NoA, those muppets are probably just acting for the OC as was the case with me.
