  • Lost and pretty worried!

    Hi
I will start by apologising about the size of this post :-( ...... Sorry

i have a pretty serious worry regarding a ccj I was given back in 2009

    so my story starts,

in 2007 I took out a loan with welcome finance for £1,000 for the first 6 months of the loan everything was fine and dandy, was offered the chance off another £1000 pound on top, so decided on taking this and putting the money to a new car, paid 2 months of the new loan before my world literally fell apart, as was made redundant in November 2009, I stopped paying my repayments, I then lost both parents in an accident and basically couldn't bear to deal with this debt, so I ignore all communication from welcome finance which included knocks on the door, telephone calls and letters .

i eventually moved into a council property in the may of June 2010 as I could keep up with payments on my house anywayyyy it was around August time that I had a gentleman from hull court knock on the door an issue me with this ccj and attached a bill for 8,798 pound! My initial loan was 2,000 how is this?

So I filled out the form that was attached with the letter and explained all my incomings and outgoings and offered an amount to repay knowing full well I wouldn't be able to make the payments,
Well the form was posted back to the courts and to this day I've not heard anything back !?

2 years now and u haven't heard anything, I'm sick of worrying about going to jail over this am now ok back in employment , healthy and ready to make up for my stupid mistakes,

so basically I'm asking for advice to what I should do?

    Contact citizens advice
ring welcome finance ( think they bankrupt now tho)
Go to courts mmyself seek a solicitor ?r

    Could I be jailed?

Any advice would be really really appreciated

    Kregards

So far you have received no correspondence from the court, no?

Was there Payment Protection Insurance on the loan in case of illness, unemployment or death?(potential for claim on PPI )

Others will offer advice as well....

Someone will be along shortly to discuss your options and plan of action...

However, I felt the need to give you a quick reply to assure you that you will NOT be jailed for owing money to Welcome Finance. There are no such things as debtors jails any longer so relax and wait for advice.

        Thanks for replys

Honestly I couldn't tell you if I had such things taken out because I don't hold any of the papers I took out with the loan, this is literally the first time I've spoken to anyone about this situation not even family or friends, been pretty scary ,

Very happy that I will not be jailed thank you for reply, need to sort this out and sort my life out once n for all

do you still have this document

welcome as a rule do not take you to court, they sell the debt to a debt collection agency

Have you checked your credit history to see what that says?
