Speak to e-on first thing tomorrow morning and ask them to explain just what the hell is going on. If you had asked another gas supplier and not e-on to supply gas to your flat, e-on have some explaining to do. There is something called Slamming which is where a gas supplier blocks another supplier from supplying gas to a consumer, usually, without the knowledge and consent of the consumer. It is, to the best of my knowledge and belief, illegal. How much is e-on trying to claim?

There will still be a standing charge - you need to find out how much this is. I'd be amazed if it amounted to that over the course of a year though!

they said the charge was only for a 3month period which makes it worse when querying this they said it was made up of added charges for trying to contact me

Are you sure it is a Bailiff? Do you have a CCJ for this debt?

I would speak to OFGEM, the Energy Industry Regulator, first thing tomorrow morning.

Contact OFGEM at 0900. This needs sorting pronto.

If that's the case I would suggest it has not been to Court yet and it is a debt collector that is chasing you. It may be they are going to apply to the Magistrates Court for a Warrant of Entry - if granted they will add an extra £265 to your bill. have to be honest and say E.ON are very insensitive on things like this but easily defeated but you do need to act soonest.
