  • My Debt Journey

    Hi all
Thought I would post up my story to date
Well back in October 2009 my world finally rocked overboard
I was shocked to find my debts were not just bad but robbing Peter to pay Paul was a joke
So I contacted all my creditors there were lots and my roller coaster ride began
Not one accepted my offers but I was determined to sort it so with the help of National Debt line
and Cashflow I soon began to make headway and do a self managed DMP
It took until late 2010 for the letters to reduce to 1 or 2 a month then at the beginning of 2011
most of my debts were passed to various DCA and the letter ping pong began again
With help from LB I took charge again with more confidence
All eventually settled down again until June 2012 when our income decrease meant I would have
to pay less than my Cashflow plan
I wrote to all the DCA involved Lowells and Cabot were right pains in the A**se
but thanks to LB Bluebottle especially I have not heard from them in over a week.
So to date its a long haul 3 years down the line my debts have only decreased by small amounts
I still budget and have shopped for a week with £20 to feed 5 of us
Its not that desperate all the time but we get by
I have applied for countless jobs over the last 3 years most have not bothered replying and the others it would cost more in childcare costs than I could earn
I moved in with My Sister in law to help save money she ripped us off and treat me and the kids like crap (think she was trying to prove a point and teach me a lesson)
I found out my Dad had cancer in March 2010 he passed away in April 2011 after watching him waste away and being totally helpless to do anything I thing put my life into perspective
So I`m sitting here today writing this after a burst water main in my garden summer of 2011 my car (old banger) blew up Nov 2011 my dishwasher died my washing machine followed it the shed roof fell in the Lawn mower broke and the loo leaks.
I`m paying back my debts what I can afford trying to pay my living expenses which are constantly increasing and keep food on the table and a roof over my head.
is it my fault of course it is cant I see a way out not at the minute is it 1 step forward and 2 steps back of course it is
But I could not do any of this without the help of LEGAL BEAGLES thanks to everyone on here your sometimes funny stories do put a smile on my face and the banter makes me laugh
    Thanks everyone

Oh Winner thank you for such a lovely, heartfelt and informative post, you surely have been through the mill over the last few years. Have you thought of preparing a new income and expenditure sheet and sending it off to your creditors asking for a change in payments, most certainly you should not have to manage on £20 a week to feed 5 people, how on earth do you manage that I wonder?
Anyways just keep posting hun, and shout if you need help.

          Hi Sapphy
Dont always have only £20 to spend on food but sometimes its a struggle to get to the end of the month
Most of the time I have sensibly shopped and the money lasts but when an emergency crops up I have to cope
No credit cards to rely on anymore but at least Im not getting further into debt

            Re: My Debt Journey

Ive been their to but I am now coming out the ether side. Their have been times when we have felt like giving up. We got in a hairs breath of losing our house and their were times when there was no money at the end of the month to buy food. We had balifs banging on the door but the secret is to know your rights and how to deal with them.

You just got to keep battling on and get as much advice as you can. We are still paying our debts and will be for a long time to come but at least now we are at a manageable level and able to keep on top of our payments. Sometimes we found it is better to let it go to court, if you get your financial statement right the court will usually accept your offer of payment and then the debt collection companies cant hassle you any more as long as you keep your payments up to date.
