If ONE plumber says that, then I would get more than one second opinion !!! Let's face it, even plumbers are finding it difficult to make ends meet, these days - so they are not going to have much incentive to try and find a £50 part for you if they can fleece you for new boiler. This needs sorting before winter sets in, I appreciate. You still have time to try and locate the part. If you can get the boiler going again for another year for a couple of hundred quid, then you've cracked it.

I'm no plumber (I'm too honest - LOL !!!) but check if the fault is definitely with the boiler. It COULD be elsewhere in the system. One weak spot I have found has been 'Motorized Valves' - where the motors burn out, but is easily fixed.
Definitely discontinued searched the internet high and low and back to front and found loads advertising the part. Ring and up and "sorry mate parts no longer available". Urgh so annoying why advertise something you aint got. :mad2:

Not sure where you are or the size of your property but this may help....

You can readily purchase a combi-boiler to run a 3 bedroom house for between £700.00 and £1,000.00 on the internet. If you shop around you may find a seller that could give you some terms.... If it is just a case of replacing the boiler without major surgery then it should not cost that much in labour. IMOH i would get a few local contractors round to give you a quote.... gather as much info as you can BEFORE commiting to ANYTHING, and have a think about it. The question to ask is their daily labour rate to do the job should you supply materials against total job cost....if they want the job they will be reasanable with their costs....
                  hope this helps....
Yes good advice that was my next move but you got to be careful to get the right person. We had a local company out for a breakdown a few years ago and they made a right mess of things. In the end they advised to us to get British gas out to sort out there mess. We joined BG breakdown insurance and had them out several times to breakdowns and the problems always related back to something they had bodged. Oh yes and it took a BG engineer 2 hrs to the repair that took them all day and wrecked our boiler.
It is a 3 bedroom house but we are probably still speaking £2000 with labour costs.

A new scheme is being introduced this autumn to replace old and inefficient boilers. If you own your own home and earn less than £40,000 you may be eligible for a grant of up to £1,000 to replace your boiler, if it is more than 15 years old.
The grant can be used to either:
                          • Replace an old inefficient boiler with a more energy-efficient oil or gas boiler
                          • Switch from oil to gas or
                          • Switch to a wood pellet boiler.

Replacing old boilers will help you reduce your energy bills and make your home more energy efficient.
If you think that you might be eligible, you can register for the scheme by phoning 0300 200 7874, or send an email to boiler-replacement@nihe.gov.uk.

Re: Finance for a central heating boiler

                                My boiler packed up last year, and a mate did it for me. Now he is a registered installer, and didn't do me too many favours on the price, but it worked out about thus;

                                boiler with flue kit £850
                                water cleaning trap ( important ) £150
                                fittings and inhibitor fluid £50
2 men labour for one day ( saturday ) £400

He had the job done in 8 hours, but it was just a straight swap on the boiler with minimal pipe-work....

Do you want to send me the part number details for the deffective kit? I have a couple of contacts wholesale that will gladly look it up for you?
