I took out a credit card in 2006 with Halifax.
They knew I was unemployed and on benefits when they gave it to me. They set my credit limit to an agreed easy to manage £1000.
Each time I used the card then paid it off, they kept increasing my credit limit, sometimes without asking me.
My credit limit is now £9,500.
I have a £3,500 debt on the card.
Also Halifax gave me a personal loan last year of £7000.
This was done online through my then current account.
I was not asked any questions about my income or expenditure, and what debts I had at the time.
They gave me an interest rate of 13.9% increasing the debt to around £10,000.
I tried to pay the money back, but I struggled.
Because of this constant giving me credit, Halifax have forced me into a position where I am now on an IVA because I cannot pay the money back that they kept lending to me.
My question is this; can I claim irresponsible lending via Halifax?
Many thanks for any replies.
