  • Statute Barred debt?

Hi, is there anybody out there who can advise?
I've been contacted by 1st Credit regarding a debt (£1200) where the last payment and contact was in August 2008. I spoke to 1st Credit on the phone about this, initially thinking it had been paid by myself and my ex. I eventually acknowledged the debt over the phone and have been in discussion (1 phone call) re: repayment but have since educated myself about statute barred debts and the 6 years ruling for England. Unfortunately for me this debt would be statute barred in august this year. Should I ignore them until august, sending a standard statute barred letter or have I scuppered myself already??? Jings Crivens! Don't know what to do. Can anyone advise?
    Thanks in advance,
    Broonsboy

To be considered acknowledged, the wording states itmust be in writing. If the last payment was August 2008, it will not become SB until August 2014 (2013 in Scotland). There has to be a clear 6 year period.

        Labman,

Just realised I have my head somewhere else. I meant to put from 2006 not 2008. Last contact was 08/08/2006.

        sorry

If you are wanting the debt to go SB, then the obvious thing would be to avoid them as far as possible for the moment, and post up if anything really serious comes through your letterbox.
