Experto Credite ... Yes, they sound Spanish, but they're based in Reading, and have a sub-branch in Liverpool!
This morning I received an (unexpected) letter from this company ... informing me that my account details had been passed to them by National Westminster Bank plc who have asked them to act as a collection agency. l have both a business and a personal current account with NatWest so I phoned them this morning to ask how and when this debt arose. NatWest had no record of any debt ... both of my accounts are in credit, and have been for the duration.
So I then phoned Experto Credite ... According to them, the £355 is the amount outstanding from a NatWest credit card debt that I had in 2003. My memory is somewhat foggy (I'm old and have dealt with several personal traumas since 2003 which far out-weigh a small financial debt in terms of psychological impact) ... but I do indeed recall a credit card debt 9 years ago. I paid varying amounts of this debt to different debt collection agencies ... it was sold on several times as the amount owed dwindled. I seem to recall (and this is going back several years) that I was offered 'a deal' ... pay a lump sum and I'd get a discount (25% off the total amount owed or somesuch) ... and I plumped for this deal.
However, Experto Credite insist that £355 is still outstanding ... and they also claim that I was making regular payments to a firm called Intrum Justitia until 2010. I *think* I would have been aware of making payments just 2 years ago ... and anyway I've checked my bank statements but can't see any evidence of DDs or monthly cheques being sent to the pretentiously-named Intrum Justitia in 2010.
I've typed out a letter asking whether they currently hold an original signed Consumer Credit Agreement pertaining to myself ... so I guess it's a case of 'wait and see' now? Are there other cases of Experto Credite 'trying it on' in order to obtain money that isn't owed?
