Help Please

Hi, sorry i am new to this forum so i hope this is in the right place.
Basically i have applied for a credit report via credit expert and have viewed my report for the 1st time today.

On it there is a default:

Company name:LOWELL PORTFOLIO I LTD
Account type:Communications
Started:07/05/2005
Default Balance:£306
Current Balance:£306
Default Date:10/01/2008
File Updated for the Period to:04/12/2011



Now i have no idea what this is.
I have googled it and it appears to be a debt collectors. Firstly can they put a default against me as i have never owed them anything.

Also, i have looked into t and it seems if i contact them then the 6 years thing will start over. I dont want to do this as i am already 4 years into the 6 years it appears but how am i meant to find out what this is all about. I cant remember anything about this but the date is 7 years ago when i was 18years old.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh ok now that could make sense but if that is it then i am sure this is wrong.
What happened was i applied for a mobile phone, they never sent me the mobile phone as said i didnt pass the credit check then a few months later i started receiving bills, I phoned and complained and then that was the last i heard from them. I cant ever recall receiving anything from this dca though.

Can i contact experian to get this looked into?

Actually looking through the default agan, i dont think it is three mobile as it was started at my parents previous address and started in 2005 so cannot be that. Its strange it says the account started in 2005 but the default date was 2008. I have no idea what it is but now i understand why i havent received any correspondance as its at my parents previous address.

What can i do about this? If i contact the company will the 6 years start again. I am really confused by this.

If you write to the company title your letter "I DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY DEBT OWED TO YOURSELVES" - DO NOT CONTACT THEM BY PHONE UNLESS YOUR ABLE TO RECORD THE CALL AND ARE NOT EASILY PUT OFF OR UPSET BY THEIR THREATS OF WE WILL DO THIS OR THAT TO YOU - Though i personally do find it amusing listening to DCA's squirm when i tell them its teaboy2 and the call has been recorded and a copy of the recording will be sent to their managing director, OFT, ICO and trading standards to name a few, and boy do they **** a bucket load lol.

contacting a company in itself is not acknowledgement as only admitting liability for the debt or making payment towards it is deemed acknowledgement, though it can be argued payment was made in error.

Personally i would write to lowells by sending them a subject access request to find out what the debt is for and at the same time what they send back to you will include everything they hold in regards to the account they have for you. But before you do that, wait for experian to get back to you as they will likely tell you what the debt was for originally anyway. And given it states communication it is likely for a phone contract, and the dates they have may well be wrong, it has been known, so it may well be the three contract you referred too.
