  • Moorcroft Debt Recovery Ltd

Having passed my loan to Blair, Oliver and Scott, who proved as elusive as the Scarlet Pimpernel, every time I tried to contact them, with multiple addresses; without warning, the BOS decided to 'very kindly' pass my account to a bunch by the name of Moorcroft Debt Recovery Ltd.

From day one Moorcroft proved bent and inept. At first they tried it on by saying that the amount owing was identical to that originally borrowed, even after several thousands of pounds had been paid over several years. Only after I reported these merchants to the FOS, did they, eventually after many months, back down and revise the outstanding sum accordingly.

After much deliberation, they finally agreed to a monthly repayment figure, again, only after the FOS were contacted.

The next problem was getting the idiots that work for these crooks to send me a paying-in book and PayPal barcode in order to make payments, as I don't trust setting up a DD with these people. A simple enough task you would have thoughts - put side items in post, address envelope, pay postage and put in post. It took the Moorcroft employee responsible for this most mundane of tasks no less than 3 months to do this! Her name is PH, Compliance Officer. As a direct result of her inefficiency and ineptitude, 3 months deficit accumulated. During these 3 months I 'phoned and wrote to Moorcroft and Huddart. Only after the FOS were again notified of this latest cock-up by Moorcroft, did the said items finally arrive by post.

Upon arrival, I immediately paid 3 months' worth of repayments. A few weeks later, to my disbelief, Paula Huddart sent me a snotty letter saying that Moorcroft had decided to no longer administer my account (that should be mal-administer) and were passing it back to BOS. I replied to both that clown Huddart, and to Tim Tookey, CEO of HBOS, requesting that if BOS aren't to administer my account that it be submitted to any company other than Moorcroft - a useless, cack-handed bunch of crooks. To date neither have had the common decency to reply.

Following some online research today, I have discovered that Moorcroft Debt Recovery Ltd is a family owned business. All of the directors of this rotten debt collection agency have the surname 'McRoberts'. Apparently, the 'leading light' there is Miss Amanda Martin McRoberts.

Has anyone else out there had the grave misfortune to have to deal with Moorcroft?

It really is time that central government regulated debt collection agencies like Moorcroft - they're a mob of *******s, flouting the law and preying on the poorest, most vulnerable members of society. They'll rot in hell for what they're doing.

Yes. I have had dealings with Moorcroft when they were bullying and harassing a friend of mine and an elderly couple, neither of whom owed any money whatsoever.

In the two cases I dealt with, Moorcroft kept insisting there was a lawful debt in each case and continued to sent threatening letters and not send proof of lawful debt. When I wrote to the companies who had engaged them and explained that they could be held responsible for Moorcroft's behaviour under both civil and criminal law, surprise, surprise, the companies involved admitted they had cocked-up big time and agreed, over the phone, to withdraw instructions from Moorcroft the day I spoke to them. That did not, however, prevent Moorcroft sending out more threatening letters. One phone call to each of the companies involved, threatening legal action, and Moorcroft's letters stopped.

Result: Companies who engaged Moorcroft sent letters to both my friend and the elderly couple confirming they did not owe any money, that Moorcroft had been instructed as the result of "human error" (makes a change from "computer error" or "system error") and offered unreserved apologies for the distress both my friend and the elderly couple had been caused.

Sometimes, putting pressure on the original creditor can achieve much quicker results that dealing with a bunch of chancers like Moorcroft, especially if, as in the cases outlined above, the original creditor has cocked-up.

Yep, also had dealings with Moorcroft; or more accurately, Moorcroft would like to have dealings with me. I have a policy of making our water supplier, United Utilities, wait as long as possible before paying their bill. Really gets my goat that we are held to ransome by U.U. as we can't take our business elsewhere. Anyway, before i go off on a rant, after a certain period U.U. try to frighten by asking Moorcroft to collect "the debt". Get their "threat" letters of "may pusue" & "legal action" & "advise our client" nonsense. Such fun ignoring all their letters in the knowledge that the bill will be settled anyway. Must drive them nuts and costs them money in staff time and postage.

I have had dealings with Moorcroft after BoS referred my credit card debt to them. To be honest they haven't done anything particularly wrong other than administer the account, and as long as I keep paying the agreed amount I don't see that changing.
My gripe has been with BoS, who in my opinion are an absolute disgrace when is comes to customer service, but that's another story.

Many times, with many accounts and usually with similar experiences to yourself. Years ago they were actually quite good to be with (late 80's early 90's), but things have gone downhill and they are now 'definitely not to be feared' is the way I look at them. They normally end up giving clients a legal payment holiday.

God its a shame most of us will have an hosepipe ban this year - They always proved to be useful deterrent against door step agents, and bloody good fun too, from what i been told. So far though i not had a door step agent come to see me personally, no idea why lol.
